The client
Dr. Luis Escaf founded Clínica Oftalmológica del Caribe in Barranquilla in 1985. Today it runs 20 operating rooms and has trained more than 250 eye surgeons in its own academy.
In 2024 it won Colombia’s national award for excellence and innovation in management, and it has held international AAAHC accreditation. It has since renamed itself VIU.
Two kinds of patient, two front doors
The first screen splits private patients from patients with prepaid health plans, so each lands on the right booking route. Phone, locations, specialists and the medical record download sit in the top bar on every page.

Every location on one page
Clinics in Barranquilla, Valledupar, Cartagena and Santa Marta, each with its hours, address, phone and WhatsApp, and a photo of the building so patients know what to look for.

Why it works
A new name that keeps 40 years of search
The page title still reads “Clínica Oftalmológica del Caribe ahora es VIU”, so people searching for the old name land on the new brand.
Accessible for the people it serves
An eye clinic’s visitors often see less well. Larger text, high contrast and a readable font are built into every page.
Surgeries explained, one page each
Each procedure has its own page with what it is and who it suits, which answers the patient’s question and gives search engines something specific to rank.
One clinic, a family of sites
The main site links to the international patients site, the academy, the FOCA foundation and the Facocaribe congress, which we also [redesigned](/portfolio/facocaribe).
What we would add next
An assistant on WhatsApp that answers the first questions about laser eye surgery or cataracts, explains private and prepaid routes and books a first consultation.
For international patients it would answer in English as well as Spanish, which matters for a clinic that already treats patients from abroad.
